A Bridge Between Routines: Two Years of Blogging

Today's entry is going to be a bit different, yet perfectly fitting into our recent discussions about routines. Not only are we facing the last weekend of March and the daylight saving time change—but my blog, this little blacksmith shop of all topics around change and project management, will be turning two years old!

These routines made it possible for this infant blog to survive its critical first 3 to 6 months. We have a fascinating case of routine dynamics here—two years ago I defined the routines, then they slowly but steadily began defining me. Now it's my turn again to reshape them.

While I've already announced that the content is slightly changing to take you along on my PhD journey (at least its exciting parts), the rhythm is also undergoing transformation. The publication date shifts from Friday to Monday. This entry therefore builds a bridge in this routine transition—on one hand, we're staying faithful to a pivotal rule of habit building: "never break the chain." We're not skipping a Friday, but reinforcing continuity. On the other hand, I'd really like to share with you the learnings from the second year of this blog's life. At the same time, being a little superstitious, I don't want to do this ahead of its time.

So here's a teaser! Stay tuned, and on Monday you will find out:

  • What I learned about building routines in the second year of my blog's life
  • What I discovered about optimizing the writing process
  • What skills writing this blog helped me develop
  • To what extent AI has supported me and what I learned about myself with AI
  • Why a newsletter is still missing
  • What's next...

With that, I wish you an incredible and sunny weekend, and I'll see you here on Monday!

Last time we talked about strawberry fields and we were left on a cliffhanger: how can we get the best of both worlds? How can we let the slow cultivators reap the best of the harvest, and how can we make sure that the harvesters pluck the strawberries at just the right point? (That is, before the strawberries get rotten, turn into vinegar, or get flat-out stolen by a jealous neighbor.)...

What do marathon runners and change managers have in common? Aside from the fact that they both put in serious footwork, expect speed bumps and holes in the road, they’re driven – and invigorated – by the magic spell of the finish line. But that also means they both encounter the Finish Line Effect. What is it? How do we know it’s real? And most importantly: what do we do about it? All this (and more) in today’s entry on Verarius.com – because there’s no better way to kick-start a successful week than having a clear goal before your eyes....

As we are coming to a complete still-stand around the year-end, I thought it would be a high time for another book recommendation. I also thought it could be a good idea to spark the ever-shortening days with an entertaining read, which also has a couple of layers – like a good cake. By the virtue of a funny coincidence, there is a great book I have recommended to a couple of awesome people lately, who are dear to my heart and who I secretly envy as they will be savoring this lush and delicious fruit for the first time. The book in question is “Murder Mindfully,” which has recently been adapted for a TV series. This makes me advocate for reading it even stronger – preferably before you watch the series and enjoy an incredible soundtrack....
